How to get here
Located on the main artery of the Kintyre peninsula, Glenbarr Stores is conveniently situated along the A83. If you're coming from Glasgow, it's a scenic 2 1/2-hour drive, while Edinburgh is about 3 1/2 hours away by car. For travelers from the west of Scotland and England, the new Ardrossan to Campbeltown ferry offers a direct route to Kintyre. Additionally, Machrihanish airport provides a quick 30-minute flight from Glasgow, making it an ideal destination for a weekend getaway.
For our neighbors in Northern Ireland, a small express passenger ferry provides easy access. From the north, Glenbarr Stores is just over an hour away from Oban and even closer to Inveraray and Lochgilphead. Conveniently, there's a regular bus service from Oban with a stop right outside the store, as well as a direct route from Glasgow.
The A83 offers breathtaking scenery, winding through the splendor of Loch Lomond, over the majestic Arrochar Alps via the 'Rest and Be Thankful' pass, and alongside picturesque lochs before reaching the Atlantic Ocean as it skirts down the Kintyre peninsula. Whether you're traveling by motorbike or car, it's a route that promises an unforgettable journey.
Kintyre has a distinct island vibe despite being part of the mainland, making it a destination worth exploring. If you're embarking on an island-hopping adventure in Scotland, Glenbarr Stores serves as an excellent pit stop, just under 30 minutes from the ferry terminal at Kennacraig. Relax by the store's beachfront and enjoy views of your next island destination, whether it's Islay or Jura, adding to the charm of your journey.
